The family Hirsch

Dr. Nathan Hirsch, *05/20/1878 in Burgsteinfurt, son of a cattle dealer, visited the Gymnasium "Arnoldinum" from 1887 until 1896. Then he studied veterinary medicine in Hannover. In 1900 he completed his PhD. Later he became the official veterinarian in Guttentag. In the address books which are available between 1922 and 1938 he is registered. Shortly after the Nazis came into power they began to bulliing Dr. Hirsch. In 1933/34 Dr. Hirsch filed a suit because his meat inspection distric has been made smaller. In June 1938 he already lived in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, Nassauische Str. 16a. At 06/15/1938 he was arrested and detained in the concentration camp Buchenwald. He was registered in the categorie Jude/ASR (=unwilling to work). His prisoner number was 5901. At 07/21/1938 he was released. Then his trail went cold.

Here you can find the registration card of KZ Buchenwald.

In KZ Buchenwald "Henni" is registered as contact person, probably his wife. Dr. Hirsch had at least one son, Hans (*1908, maybe at 09/26).

Dr. RoczekA narativ in Guttentag says that Dr. Roczek, a SA-soldier, warned the family Hirsch that they would be deported soon and brought the family in his SA-uniform to the airport of Breslau. If this story is true, then it would be probably the family of Hans Hirsch because Dr. Nathan Hirsch left Guttentag already.

A letter of Gertrud (Trude or Truschka) Hepner, sent some weeks after she arrived in New York in November 1951, proofs that the family Hirsch was also there. Gertrud Hepner was visited by Mrs. Hirsch and her son Jürgen who was married and father of twins.
